The Danbury Rug Works was founded by Frank Barrett in 1908. Frank opened the Danbury Rug and Wire Cloth Works at 13 Summit Street in Danbury.Frank Barrett Frank made rugs out of old rags, cleaned rugs, and made fine wire cloth for numerous purposes, including the U.S Army. His business prosepered through the 20s, and into the thirites, when 2 boys who lived next door, began to help Frank out by beating the rugs that had come in for cleaning.Frank became ill in the 40s, and after the war, he needed help running the business. One of the young boys stepped up, and became the manager. When Frank passed away in 1948, the company, now the Danbury Rug Works, was sold to the 2 boys who had helped him when they were they younger: Edward and Anthony Benicewicz. Edward and Anthony BenicewiczThe 2 brothers built the business up, now dealing in rug cleaning and repair, as well as a new trend; installed carpet. In the early 60s, a new face came to the Danbury Rug Works, Anthony's son, AJ. AJ began working at the rug works full time after graduating from High school. Edward passed away in 1980, leaving Anthony and AJ to run the business alone. AJ soon became the manager, while his father, well into later years, began to work only part time. As of 2007, Anthony fully retired, while AJ continues to run the business. AJ's two sons, Nicholas, and Jacob, are beginning to work in the business, and plan to take the Danbury Rug Works well into the 21st century.
